Collagen Sourcing FAQ
We believe you should know what’s in the products you use every day. Here’s a closer look at the collagen behind Good Soma Pure, MCT + Vanilla, and Cacao + Sea Salt.
What collagen does Good Soma use?
We use PeptPure® organic hydrolyzed bovine collagen peptides containing Type I & III collagen.
PeptPure® was chosen for its simple ingredient profile, traceable sourcing, and clean processing method. It dissolves easily into hot or cold drinks with very little taste or odor, which makes it an easy fit for coffee, smoothies, cacao, and everyday recipes.
Is your collagen grass-fed?
Yes. PeptPure® collagen is sourced from pasture-raised, grass-fed cattle.
According to the manufacturer, the collagen comes from closed cattle herds and is supported by a vertically integrated supply chain designed for traceability from the source through the finished ingredient.
Is your collagen organic?
Yes. The PeptPure® collagen ingredient we use is certified organic.
Good Soma’s collagen blends are also certified organic by the Montana Department of Agriculture.
Where does your collagen come from?
Our collagen is sourced from cattle raised in Brazil.
This refers specifically to the collagen ingredient. Other ingredients in Good Soma blends, such as cacao, vanilla, MCT oil, and sea salt, may come from different regions.
How is PeptPure® collagen processed?
One of the reasons we chose PeptPure® is its processing method.
PeptPure® uses a peptide bio-extraction and purification process designed to skip the traditional gelatin-production step and avoid harsh chemical processing.
The manufacturer states that PeptPure® is produced without ammonia, color-bleaching, or flavor-masking processes.
For us, that matters. We wanted a collagen ingredient that aligned with Good Soma’s approach: simple ingredients, thoughtful sourcing, and as little unnecessary processing as possible.
Is grass-fed collagen better than conventional collagen?
Grass-fed describes the sourcing of the cattle used to produce the collagen.
We don’t claim that the grass-fed label alone makes collagen healthier or more effective. What we care about is the bigger picture: sourcing, traceability, processing, ingredient quality, and transparency.
Is PeptPure® traceable?
Yes. PeptPure® describes its supply chain as vertically integrated, with traceability from farm to finished collagen ingredient.
That added visibility into where our collagen comes from was an important part of choosing it for Good Soma.
What type of collagen is it?
PeptPure® is hydrolyzed Type I & III bovine collagen.
Hydrolyzing collagen breaks the larger collagen proteins into smaller peptides, which allows the powder to dissolve easily in both hot and cold liquids.
Why did Good Soma choose PeptPure®?
There are a lot of collagen ingredients available. We chose PeptPure® because its sourcing and processing standards fit what we wanted Good Soma to stand for.
It gives us:
- Organic, grass-fed bovine collagen
- Type I & III hydrolyzed collagen peptides
- Traceable sourcing from closed cattle herds
- A bio-extraction and purification process that avoids harsh chemicals
- No ammonia, color-bleaching, or flavor-masking processes
- Excellent solubility with a neutral taste and odor
We’re not interested in making collagen sound more complicated than it is. We just wanted to start with a really good ingredient and keep the rest simple.
